Wednesday 5 May – Espionage feat. Captain Murphy + Om Unit @ Howler

Captain Murphy is a character off Sealab 2020/21, and has apparently been confirmed as the rapping alias of Flying Lotus, although this was previously debated heavily online as perhaps being an MC collaboration between Earl Sweatshirt of Odd Future, and Flying Lotus.

CM’s album Duality has been reviewed as very strong on beats, although has been described as “ADHD” by Anthony Fantano (self-described as “the internet’s busiest music nerd”) in terms of lyrical narrative and also been commented as a bit gimmicky.

Fly-Lo is following up from his successful Friday night show at The Forum with this Captain Murphy appearance at Howler, and this show should be a sell-out with only 350 tickets available at the door for a relatively good deal of $30.

To back this up, Om Unit will be pulling another live appearance, which many bass music lovers may be more eager to hear with the more intimate (at least more intimate than The Forum) surroundings of Howler’s still-spacious backroom.

In support to these acts are Kuya and Epoch. If indications are true, Fly-Lo may also be doing a DJ set. This is – in case you haven’t figured it out – an Operatives event done again as part of their Espionage series.

8pm-1am. Howler Melbourne, 7-11 Dawson Street, Brunswick. $30 (door only).
