Flying Lotus barely needs introduction. FlyLo aka Stephen Ellison‘s sound has spread worldwide and helped popularise left field hip-hop instrumental beats to a mass audience.
This year, his tour has been scheduled entirely by Melbourne’s most influential crew – The Operatives – and will take him not only to our cities prestigious Forum, but also to the Sydney Opera House. This is in part due to the hype of the “Layer 3” visual show, which is essentially layered projections through translucent fabric. However, this sort of visual is hardly revolutionary in the world of projection art, although is hyped to be.
Of note outside of the FlyLo hype to many beats lovers in Melbourne is the return of Om Unit, a UK autonomic beatsmith much loved for his deep, jungalisitic and jukey production. Also appearing at this Espionage event is Kutmah, an American whose nightclub Sketchbook has become a hotbed for alternative LA beats and culture.
