Khalif Diouf aka LE1F is one of a small movement of openly gay men who have the courage to perform hip-hop, globally critisised (and sometimes rightfully so) as a conduit for homophobia, violence and misogyny.
Allow Le1t to change your perspective, if you dare. His film clip to song ‘Wut’ sees the niche rapper styling and profiling in the most fruity of manners, at times cavorting in the lap of a topless man in a Pikachu mask. To us, this is the manner of true hip-hop, in challenging social taboos and cliches.
Le1t’s third Australian tour this year will see him performing at both Meredith and Subsonic Music Festivals, as well as performing at Perth, Sydney and Melbourne events. Locals supporting Le1t are the talented and under-rated Brothers Hand Mirror, DJ Mess Kid, DJ Melodee Maker and The Larnach-Jones Bros. The event is presented by Grouse Parties as their sixth birthday event.
Starts 9pm. Roxanne, Level 3, 2 Coverlid Place, Melbourne CBD. $25.
