Slam Poetry – for those who don’t know – is a style of competitive poetry where poets read their original work to an audience, and then this work is judged by a panel of previously selected audience members.
Luka Lesson is one such poet. Coming from a Greek background, he has been described as a “young Saul Williams” and he claims to be a “conscious hip-hop artist”. He has performed alongside many fellow international slam poets, participated in numerous workshops, has previously released an album entitled Please Resist Me, and lectures at Monash university for indigenous studies.
This event is to herald the release of his sophomore book – The Future Ancients – with a live reading of its workings at the Malthouse. Also performing spoken words are Abe Ape, Carrie Hagan, Angela Costi, Simon Taylor, Mariaa Randall and Maxine Beneba Clarke.
Starts 7pm. Malthouse Theatre, 113 Sturt Street, Southbank. Free!
