Heartical Hi-Fi are a sound system with an international reputation, and their Basement Sessions parties in the catacombs of the Night Owl are now running into their sixth year.
To celebrate this, they have brought another guest with a reputation and sound to match their awesome system.
Alpha Steppa is a second generation dub producer as son and nephew of UK dub pioneers Alpha & Omega. Steppa’s sounds have brought his predecessors work of Lee Scratch Perry, Greensleeves, Jah Shaka and Gregory Isaacs cuts and styles, and filtered them into new waves of UK dub music such as dubstep.
This contemporary translation has been praised by such magazines as Mixmag with remarks such as “(Alpha Steppa) sounds like Mala in a Taoist temple.” Okay, they said Mala something-something, you can definitely colour me interested.
Come celebrate a Melbourne dub institution, get lit and have some fun, as dub meets brand new sounds in the 21st century through our own cities cultural legacy this Saturday.
Starts 10pm. The Night Owl, 33 Elizabeth St (entry via Flinders Court), Melbourne CBD. $20.
